CICT launches 3 iSchools in Pangasinan

Schools in Pangasinan open with a bang!
The Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) in coordination with the Benguet State University launched three iSchools in Pangasinan during the first day of classes on June 10, 2008.

The Juan G. Macaraeg National High School, Juan C. Laya High School and Rosales National High School, each received 21 units of computers, free internet connection for a year, a wireless router, and projector. As an iSchools recipient the teachers, administrators and students in these schools are also entitled to relevant ICT trainings.

Antonette T. Torres, iSchools Project Manager, Rogelio Colting, Benguet State University (BSU) President, and Flordeliza Naje, BSU Project Manager were present during the launching.

Torres reminded the iSchools recipients that the success of the project relies greatly on their support and collaboration. Further, she encouraged the teachers and students to make the most out of the provided equipment and training.  In the succeeding years, capability building and monitoring will be done by CICT and BSU to ensure continuity of the project and maintenance of the equipment.

Torres added that the minimum requirement for entering college and getting a job these days is to be computer literate. Moreover, if one plans to go abroad, a big edge is having knowledge of the basics of computer operation and application.

On one hand, Colting said that the iSchools project is one step of the government to address the digital divide. The provision of the equipment has given the high school students a means of accessing the numerous relevant informations to be globally competitive.

During the launching, the Memorandum of Agreement, deed of donation and other papers pertaining to the project was handed over to the school principal of each school.

Meanwhile, the CICT and BSU team visited the Ariston Bantog National High School, another iSchools recipient in Pangasinan to check on the damaged computers during Typhoon Cosme, for the signing of the deed of donation, and for turning over copies of important documents in connection with the project.

With CICT\'s Toni Torres (l), BSU President Rogelio Colting (r) and Project Manager Flordeliza Naje (c), the Jaun G. Macaraeg National High School can now enjoy the privileges of having a fully equipped computer laboratory and internet connection.
